Question Details

An alloy is prepared by mixing three metals A, B and C in the proportion 3: 4: 7 by volume. Weights of the same volume of the metals A, B and C are in the ratio 5: 2: 6. In 130 kg of the alloy, the weight, in kg, of the metal C is

Correct Answer :

Option D

84

Solution :

Let the volumes of metals A, B, and C mixed be 3v, 4v, and 7v respectively.

Let the weights per unit volume (densities) of metals A, B, and C be 5w, 2w, and 6w respectively.

The weight of a metal is given by Volume × Density.
Weight of A = 3v×5w=15vw
Weight of B = 4v×2w=8vw
Weight of C = 7v×6w=42vw

The ratio of weights of A, B, and C in the alloy is:
15vw:8vw:42vw=15:8:42

The total weight of the alloy is 130 kg.
The sum of the ratio parts is 15+8+42=65.

The weight of metal C in 130 kg of the alloy is:
4265×130=42×2=84 kg
