Sanskrit which developed a simple and dignified prose-style from the time of the composition of the Upanisads, several centuries before Christ,
employed prose in various spheres of intellectual and imaginative activities. Following the same tradition. Pali and a few Prakrit languages also developed a rich and vast body of tales and romances.
