Question Details

Directions (67-69):The radar graph given below shows the number of buckets (plastic + wooden) sold by five different shops (P , Q, R, S and T) in two different months (May and June). Read the data carefully and answer the questions.

40% of total buckets sold by P in June are plastic buckets and 18 th of total plastic buckets sold by P are defective. If 25% of total wooden buckets sold by P in June are also defective and total wooden buckets sold by Q in June are 50% more than the difference between total plastic and wooden buckets sold by P in June which are not defective, then find total plastic buckets sold by Q in June are what percent of total buckets sold by Q in May.

60%

Solution :

From the radar graph, we can extract the total number of buckets sold by the shops in the respective months:

  • Total buckets sold by P in June = 160
  • Total buckets sold by Q in June = 96
  • Total buckets sold by Q in May = 120

Step 1: Calculate the plastic and wooden buckets sold by P in June
Total buckets sold by P in June = 160
Number of plastic buckets = 40% of 160
= 40 100 × 160 = 64
Number of wooden buckets = 160 - 64 = 96

Step 2: Find the non-defective buckets sold by P in June
Defective plastic buckets = 1 8 of 64 = 8
Non-defective plastic buckets sold by P in June = 64 - 8 = 56

Defective wooden buckets = 25% of 96 = 24
Non-defective wooden buckets sold by P in June = 96 - 24 = 72

Step 3: Calculate the wooden and plastic buckets sold by Q in June
The difference between the non-defective wooden and plastic buckets sold by P in June:
Difference = 72 - 56 = 16
Wooden buckets sold by Q in June is 50% more than this difference:
Wooden buckets (Q) = 16 × 1.5 = 24
Since the total buckets sold by Q in June is 96, we can find the plastic buckets sold by Q in June:
Plastic buckets (Q) = 96 - 24 = 72

Step 4: Find the required percentage
We need to find what percent the total plastic buckets sold by Q in June are of the total buckets sold by Q in May (which is 120):
Percentage = 72 120 × 100 % = 60 %
