Question Details

The pie chart (i ) given below shows percentage distribution of total people (male + female) visited five different clubs and pie chart (ii) shows percentage distribution of total male visited in these five clubs. Read the data carefully and answer the questions given below.

The ratio of males whose age above 25 years to below 25 years in club C is 5 : 3, while the ratio of females whose age above 25 years to below 25 years in B is 1 : 2. If total males in C and females in B whose age is 25 years are 20 and 40 respectively, then find the sum of total males in C and females in B whose age below 25 years.

Correct Answer :

Option D

250

250

Solution :

Given:

  • Total people (Male + Female) = 2500
  • Total males = 1200
  • Ratio of males (Above 25 : Below 25) in Club C = 5 : 3
  • Ratio of females (Above 25 : Below 25) in Club B = 1 : 2
  • Males in Club C aged 25 years = 20
  • Females in Club B aged 25 years = 40

Step 1: Find total males in Club C

Males in Club C = 35% of 1200 = 420

Males above 25 years = (5/8) × 420 = 262.5

Males below 25 years = (3/8) × 420 = 157.5

Including males aged exactly 25 years,

Males below 25 years = 420 − 262.5 − 20 = 137.5

Step 2: Find total females in Club B

Total people in Club B = 16% of 2500 = 400

Males in Club B = 15% of 1200 = 180

Females in Club B = 400 − 180 = 220

Females above 25 years = (1/3) × 220 = 73.33

Including females aged exactly 25 years,

Females below 25 years = 220 − 73.33 − 40 = 106.67

Step 3: Find the required sum

Required Sum = 137.5 + 106.67 ≈ 244.17

The nearest option is 250.

Answer: 250
