Question Details

The table given below shows the average number of articles (A, B and C) sold by Pesto company in three different months. It also shows the percentage of article A sold by Pesto company out of the total number of articles sold in these months. Table also reflects the total number of article C sold in these months. Read the table carefully and answer the following questions.

Months Average number of articles sold Percentage of article A sold Total number of articles C sold
April 100 40% 100
May 120 30% 70
June 72 25% 80

Find the ratio of the sum of the number of articles A and B together sold in May to the difference between the articles B and C sold in April.

Show Answer

Correct Answer :

Option C

29:2

Solution :

The correct option is 29:2.

Step 1: Understand the given data for each month

There are three types of articles sold: A, B, and C.
Total number of articles sold in any month = Number of Article A + Number of Article B + Number of Article C = 3 × (Average number of articles sold).

Step 2: Calculate the values for April

Average number of articles sold in April = 100
Total number of articles sold in April = 100 × 3 = 300
Percentage of article A sold in April = 40%
Number of article A sold in April = 40% of 300

Article A (April) = 40 100 × 300 = 120

Total number of article C sold in April = 100
Therefore, number of article B sold in April = Total articles - Article A - Article C

Article B (April) = 300 - 120 - 100 = 80

Step 3: Calculate the values for May

Average number of articles sold in May = 120
Total number of articles sold in May = 120 × 3 = 360
Percentage of article A sold in May = 30%
Number of article A sold in May = 30% of 360

Article A (May) = 30 100 × 360 = 108

Total number of article C sold in May = 70
Therefore, number of article B sold in May = Total articles - Article A - Article C

Article B (May) = 360 - 108 - 70 = 182

Step 4: Find the required ratio

Sum of the number of articles A and B sold together in May:

Sum = 108 + 182 = 290

Difference between the articles B and C sold in April:

Difference = 100 - 80 = 20

Required Ratio:

Ratio = 290 20 = 29 2 = 29:2

Thus, the ratio is 29:2.
